Not much of a journey today - 20 miles and 3 locks. The locks were very close together, about 4-6 miles, so once we passed through the first one, the Lockmaster called ahead to let the others know we were coming - Southern hospitality at it's best :)
Today we tied up to the bollards on the port side for experience, so now we have done 3 locks on the port and 3 locks on the starboard...piece of cake!
The first lock we went through, James Whitten, was another deep drop of about 80 feet. The next two - Montgomery and Rankin were between 20-30 feet. So far, we haven't seen any barge traffic , but I'm sure it will pick up as we get closer to Mobile.
We had to change up the itinerary today, due to weather. We are currently at Midway Marina in Fulton Mississippi and will stay here until Friday morning as Thursday is supposed to bring lots of rain and the potential for severe thunderstorms.
We met one of our transient dock mates who is traveling solo from Chattanooga TN down to Florida on a smaller sailboat named Harmony. He joined us at the marina restaurant for dinner and interesting conversation! Of course, we had to partake of the local cuisine - catfish for me and shrimp 'n' grits for Ryk - it was all yummy!
Coming into Midway Marina - a wee bit of a challenge, but the Dockmaster was helpful in guiding us in. The dock is just to the right of this stump field. As we were cruising in the wind and the currents were working against us, but the boys did a great job getting her secure to the dock!
The marina is a little "well used", but we have power and water and the staff are super friendly, so all is good! They also have a courtesy vehicle for us to use, so we're going to make a run into town on Thursday for some provisions and a break from sea legs.
Our neighbor boat - she could use some love
An unfortunate familiar scene - still having problems with the starboard gauge and on this run, the depth finder went out...never a dull moment!
